Fibre Optic Broadband – My flat missed the bus!

Right this is a little rant about my flat having a lack of fibre optic broadband…..

So my friends live about 10mins walk from me and they got Virgin Media TV Fibre Optic or high speed broadband, up to 100MB I believe and I also found out Japan is way ahead in the 2GB regions, lol. So I asked myself about my own speeds, admittedly it is to most people pretty darn fast at up to 8MB and I am relatively satisfied with it if I’m honest but I thought I’m just off a main road out of town, not far from town either, why did I not get access to it. Then I look around at my neighbours seeing how old a lot of them are, not really technology hungry people to be fair. So I considered a conversation I had with a neighbour around the time I’d moved in, I was told they asked for fibre optic years ago when it was first rolled out but it was turned down. Probably by the council but possibly BT if you ask me too.

So I went on a housing website to try find some postcodes that firstly, I might move to, secondly aren’t far from town or are in an area near my parents and not too far away from friends, so what did I find, well almost all properties I entered into Virgin Media’s postcode services search provided me with Fibre Optic broadband, jees thats just typical. I remember a friend once telling me he was looking at properties mainly based on their speed of internet connection, I laughed at that thought but here I am considering doing exactly that.

See the thing is, I don’t want to move, I like it here, I’m decorating the place to look real nice, admittedly I’m rather slow at it, but my living room after much help from my mum and dad looks great, really homely. The hallway is in progress, slowly sanding away to hopefully be done before christmas arrives. So I want to stay here so I want to find the right people to talk to about getting the line in my area upgraded to fibre optic. I don’t know where to start but I’m going to keep scouring, I found an article on Burton getting superfast broadband and a lot of comments of people have disagreements or mumbled disgruntled attitudes towards councils not  approving better broadband speeds and thought this is something we should have now, in this day and age it is kind of the norm to have super fast broadband capable of online gaming or streaming TV. BT and Virgin Media both have plenty of money from customers and why shouldn’t we all benefit from their success? I’m more than happy to share the cost of installing fibre optic, I admittedly am skint after all bills are paid at the moment, but if it is a one off payment I’m sure I can scrape it up if it means when my AOL contract nears an end I can switch to either BT or Virgin Media Fibre Optic broadband and have a generally cheaper faster deal, who knows maybe AOL might offer fibre optic if it gets installed and I can get more benefits by being a loyal customer!

Anyone out there know who I need to speak to in order to get this happening, I live in the Kirklees Council area, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, it would be a great new years resolution for them or even a great christmas present for me!
